Sviluppo turistico,

le scelte partano dal basso.

  ...mi stupisce tutta questa euforia per il decreto anti crisi varato dal Governo Berlusconi; comprendo l'entusiasmo del Ministro Fitto che certamente avrà sudato cento camice per far includere alcune manutenzioni in Puglia e il completamento della Scorrano-Leuca; non comprendo le parole del Presidente della Provincia Giovanni Pellegrino quando afferma con grande entusiasmo che i 136 milioni rilanceranno il turismo e lo sviluppo economico della parte meridionale della Provincia.

   Vorrei ricordare al Presidente Pellegrino che il turismo del Capo di Leuca, se a questa parte meridionale della Provincia si riferisce, c'è già: grazie ai Sindaci delle zone costiere che con grande attenzione e sacrifici economici, ma anche con il coinvolgimento dei cittadini riescono a tenere pulite le coste e un mare che è tra i più puliti, limpidi e belli del mondo e grazie anche a quei Sindaci dei Comuni dell'entroterra che stanno ristrutturando i centri storici, i beni e monumenti culturali, l'ambiente,il controllo del territorio;cose queste che fanno turismo e sviluppo ma in questo, caro Presidente, non basta e non centra la Scorrano-Leuca per lo sviluppo economico del Capo di Leuca. Un Capo di Leuca, vorrei ricordare, che da solo è riuscito a svilupparsi grazie alla tenacia degli artigiani, degli agricoltori che, anche se con difficoltà, hanno continuato a coltivare terreni che purtroppo non danno più la possibilità neanche del sostegno quotidiano, con l'attivismo di piccoli operatori del turismo, con il pesce buono e fresco che ancora qui da noi si riesce a trovare grazie ai tanti pescatori che ancora resistono in questa faticosa attività.

   Il Capo di Leuca non può più essere meta di turisti della domenica o dei leccesi e baresi del fine settimana che grazie ad una strada più veloce possono fiondarsi senza perdere molto tempo, fino a Finibus Terrae. La parte meridionale della Provincia, come tu la chiami, ha bisogno d'altro, forse non sai che qui si è costruita una rete di servizi e di circuiti culturali e gastronomici che non possono essere sfasciati da una strada veloce che serve solo a consentire e servire baresi e leccesi a raggiungere le nostre marine velocemente. Il nostro, quello che abbiamo costruito, è il turismo della lentezza, della calma e della riflessione; la nostra è una terra gentile che deve essere amata, aggredita con dolcezza e conosciuta a piccoli passi, con rispetto e capacità di comprendere tutti i suoi infiniti aspetti.

   Al punto in cui siamo lasciateci completare la costruzione di questo lembo di terra dal basso come vogliono i cittadini di questa terra, non quelli legati a carrozzoni politici o ad interessi di parte ma quelli che hanno sempre voluto bene a questa terra e non hanno mai sentito il bisogno di abbandonarla per trasferirsi in città più comode e attraenti. Parliamo di sviluppo vero per il Capo di Leuca, già preso in giro dagli Acquaviva, (te lo ricordi?) con progetti inutili e faraonici come quel Sud Salento che tanto ha entusiasmato animi innocenti, ma ha tanto deluso i “capuani” nel non vedere costruire neanche un granello di sabbia di tanto progetto.

   Ma noi, Presidente, siamo coriacei e non ci perdiamo d'animo. Abbiamo ripreso a camminare piano piano, con calma guardando alle cose che, con realismo, potevamo fare. Devo dire che a questo territorio è venuto incontro un progetto europeo, il LEADER, che ha saputo con la collaborazione dei cittadini sviluppare dal basso questo territorio.

   Ti prego, vi prego, non sfasciatecelo. Abbiamo costruito un sistema, un'isola nella quale abbiamo messo insieme tante ricchezze e il convegno sul tesoretto del Salento lo ha dimostrato ampiamente.

   Siamo, scusami, un poco più avanti di chi pensa ancora ad un Capo di Leuca bisognoso di qualche aiuto clientelare, noi abbiamo bisogno di entrare nel sistema europeo, non in quello provinciale; più della Scorrano-Leuca abbiamo bisogno di un aeroporto nel Salento, per accorciare le distanze dall'Italia, dall'Europa e dal mondo, abbiamo bisogno di una ferrovia seria, decente, pulita e con una vera alta velocità che consenta a chi vuole venire da noi in treno dal nord o dall'Europa di poterlo fare con treni puliti, sicuri e veloci. Abbiamo bisogno, Presidente, anche di altro, ma dateci questo. L'altro, sapremo noi come svilupparlo.

   Ti ringrazio per avermi dato lo spunto di dire con la mia solita passione ciò che noi vogliamo. Ti stimo sempre con amicizia.

  A slow tourism respectful of the territory, choices made from the bottom with love and care, an airport in the Salento Region to be more and better connected to Europe: this is what the Honourable Antonio Lia asks for - president of the local action Group Capo di Santa Maria di Leuca - in the letter addressed to the President of the Province Pellegrino, while taking part in an open debate concerning the extension of the Maglie-Leuca track, a choice not shared by the Honourable. That’s why.

   I’m surprised by the euphoria for the anti-crisis decree passed by Berlusconi’s government; I understand the enthusiasm of Minister Fitto who has certainly sweated blood over the project of promoting some maintenance works in Apulia and the completion of the Scorrano-Leuca track; I don’t understand the words of the President of the Province Giovanni Pellegrino, when he states with great enthusiasm that 136 million Euros will kick-start tourism and the economic development of the southern part of the Province.

   I would like to remind President Pellegrino that tourism in Capo di Leuca, if we are referring to the southern part of the Province, already exists: thanks to the mayors of the costal areas who, with great care and economic sacrifices and together with an involvement of the citizens too, manage to keep the coasts clean and one of the cleanest, clearest and most beautiful seas in the world and also thanks to those mayors of the inland parts who are renovating the historic centre, the goods and the cultural heritage, the environment, the territory control; such things promote tourism and development but in this case, dear President, the Scorrano-Leuca track has nothing to do with the economic development of Capo di Leuca. I wish to remind that Capo di Leuca developed alone thanks to the tenacity of artisans and farmers who, in spite of difficulties, kept on farming fields which unfortunately can’t even ensure daily support, with the activism of little tourist operators and with the good and fresh fish still existing in our region thanks to many fishers who still stand this hard work.

   Capo di Leuca can’t be a destination for tourists on Sundays any more or for people coming from Bari and Lecce in the weekend who, thanks to a faster route, can rush to Finibus Terrae without wasting much time. The southern part of the Province, as you call it, needs something else, maybe you don’t know that a network of services and cultural and gastronomic circuits was built here, a network that can’t be broken up by a faster route, useful only to allow people coming from Bari and Lecce to reach our seashores faster. Our tourism, the one we’ve developed, is the tourism of slowness, calm and thinking; our land is a kind land which needs to be loved, approached with sweetness and known gradually, showing respect and capacity for understanding all its countless aspects.

   Considering our situation, please let us complete the construction of this patch of land from the bottom just like the local citizens wish, not those with political or personal interests but those who always cared for this land and never felt the need of abandoning it to move to more comfortable and attractive cities. We are talking about a real development of Capo di Leuca, and not about the one proposed by the Acquaviva family (do you remember?), with useless and pharaonic projects like Sud Salento, which aroused so much enthusiasm in innocent people, as well as disillusion in the “Capuani” since this project never started.

    But we are hard and don’t lose heart, President. We have started again, step by step, aiming quietly at things we could really do. I must say that this territory has been supported by a European project, LEADER, which was able to enhance this territory from the bottom together with the collaboration of the citizens.

   President, I beg you, I beg you all, don’t break it up. We have built a system, “an isle”, in which we have put together much riches, as the convention on the treasures of Salento has proved beyond doubt.

   Sorry, but we are a little more ahead of those who still think that Capo di Leuca needs some favouritism; we need to enter the European system, not the provincial one; instead of the Scorrano-Leuca track, we need rather an airport in Salento, in order to narrow the gap from Italy, Europe and the world, we need a reliable railway, adequate, clean and at a really high speed, enabling those willing to reach us by train from the North or from Europe to do it with clean, secure and fast trains. President, we need something else too, but for now grant us this, please.

We know how to manage the rest.
